Hi, I'm Lou, a print and fashion designer currently based in Birmingham. I graduated in July 2020 with a 1st Class Degree in Fashion Design from Falmouth University. Having found a passion for print design and sustainable fashion during my degree, I decided to start my own business in July 2020 called ByLouMoffat which is focused around those two principles. My business aims to create beautiful products that are designed and sewn by me while promoting sustainable choices both consumers and businesses can make within the fashion and textiles industries. Through running my business I have been able to further develop the print design and visual design skills I learnt during my uni degree. I now feel confident in producing both repeat designs and standalone prints as well as producing designs/graphics for social media/packaging/websites etc. I feel confident working to a set brief in a style that suits my clients but also love having creative freedom to design prints in my own style too. I love to reference retro prints within my work and often use bright colour schemes as one of my biggest inspirations behind my work is the 60s and 70s, particularly Carnaby Street and designers of the era such as Emilio Pucci, Mary Quant and John Stephen. Through running my business I have also developed a strong understanding of social media marketing with an awareness of the ever-changing fashion industry and consumer behaviour. During my degree I gained a solid understanding of garment construction particularly in pattern cutting and construction for both stretch and woven fabrics and since completing my degree have developed a solid understanding of pattern grading. To further my career and experience within the fashion and textiles industries I am currently seeking a job within the design sector, eager to learn as part of a fun, dynamic team and become a key part of the ever-growing creative industry.
