In December 2021 I was approached by American designer Nujoad who was interested in collaborating with me on a streetwear collection. Nujoad loved my prints and wanted me to design an abstract print that wrapped around the garment creating interesting shapes and patterns. Her clothing ranges normally feature black and white fabric so we wanted to create garments that equally combined my love for colour and her love for monochrome.
I ended up creating this mirrored design you can see below as the final print and thought it could be interesting to take sections within the print to wrap around the garments. Over zoom we then started experimenting with some joggers and sweatshirts looking at how we could take parts of the print and use them to add splashes of colour.
After playing around with the print, cutting shapes out of it and manipulating the design we came up with this final motif. Nujoad loved the way it added a splash of colour to the garments but wasn't too in your face and I was really happy with how interesting the print looked with the cut out effect. After some experimenting on CLO3D and some meetings over zoom we settled on our final collection creating a unisex jogger, long sleeved top and hoodie set in both black and white.
I am so happy with how this collaboration turned out as not only do the final pieces look amazing but it was also exciting to push my print design skills out of my comfort zone as well as to collaborate with an incredibly talented designer. Not being able to design together in person was definitely a challenge but it was interesting doing it over zoom and seeing how each of us adapted our design styles to suit this new way of working completely digitially.
Our pieces were launched in February 2021 and were really well received by both of our customers with a couple of the pieces selling out within the first two weeks of the launch!
